"Fifty years and glowing stronger" was the slogan of the 50th Anniversary of the Zippo Mfg. Co.. This year also represented the introduction of solid brass lighters. Although all Zippo lighters are made of brass - except steel & nickel during the war years - 1982 was the first year brass Zippo lighters were not chromed but left in their natural state, with their surfaces being brushed or high polished. A thin gold flash is added to the surface to prevent the brass from toning.

The official release COMMEMORATIVE Zippo lighter came in a black & gold finish cardboard box that had the same design as the one used between 1935 and 1940, which bore the illustration of the "Windproof Beauty" designed by Enoch Bolles. A pressure sensitive, easy to remove sticker was attached to the front. The bottom stamp "1932  ZIPPO  1982" can be found on regular solid brass Zippo lighters as well as on slim Zippo lighters with "1932  ZIPPO  1992" marking the final year using that bottom stamp, of course without the word COMMEMORATIVE since 1983.

In 1985 the Vintage - 1937 Series was added to the product line. These Zippo lighters have a special bottom stamp including the patent number 2032695 and came in a red & white candy striped cardboard box with black stylar on the inside.
